Tali's Classic Page-Peter Pan by J.M. Barry SynopsisPeter Pan and Tinkerbell lead the three Darling children over the rooftops of London and away to Neverland – the island where the lost boys play. Magic and mischief is in the air but if villainous Captain Hook has his way, before long someone will be swimming with the crocodiles... About the AuthorBorn on May 9, 1860, in Scotland, J.M. Barrie was a Scottish dramatist, best known for writing Peter Pan in 1904, or The Boy Who Would Never Grow Up. The son of Scottish weavers, he moved to London to pursue his interest in becoming a playwright. There he met the Llewelyn Davies boys who inspired him in writing about a baby boy who has magical adventures in Kensington Gardens (included in The little white bird), then to write then to write Peter Pan, a "fairy play" about this ageless boy and an ordinary girl named Wendy who have adventures in the fantasy setting of Neverland. This play quickly overshadowed his previous work and although he continued to write successfully, it became his best-known work, credited with popularising the name Wendy, which was very uncommon previously. Barrie unofficially adopted the Davies boys following the deaths of their parents.Barrie died of pneumonia on 19 June 1937 and was buried at Kirriemuir next to his parents and two of his siblings. Character list Tinker bell- Tinker bell is described as a common, tinker fairy who is small, fair skinned and quite beautiful. She is feisty and hot tempered (with her face turning red when she gets angry or jealous). She has blue eyes, blonde hair which is usually worn in a bun and has pointy elf-like ears. SHe has a good relationship with the Lost Boys and Peter Pan and so when Wendy Darling meets Peter Pan, Tinker bell gets very jealous. Captain Hook-The Captain of a crew of pirates, Captain Hook has long since abandoned sailing the high seas in favor of having revenge on Peter Pan for ruining his life (Peter having cut off hooks left hand and fed it to the Crocodile, considering it, by Mr. Smee, a "childish prank"). Captain Hook acts as a menacing and cunning villain. DUe to this, he made a fool of himself quite often. Despite this, he's still a very furious character. He is very murderous. One time, he shot and killed one of his crew members because of his singing. He is quite intelligent and Manipulative. Peter Pan-Peter Pan is the main character of this story. Peter is a young boy who lives on the hidden away and mysterious island of Never Land. He has a pixie called Tinker Bell who is his best friend and sidekick and he is the current leader of the Lost Boys. He spends most of his time going on adventures and battling the notorious pirate Captain Hook. Peter Pan is incredibly adventurous and daring. His favourite activities include battling pirates, friendly wars with the indians, and listening to Wendy's stories. Being a young boy, Peter Pan can be impractical at times but when it comes to rescuing his friends, he is far mpre mature and driven than any adult can be. Wendy Darling-Wendy is an adventurous 12 year-old girl, who loves to dream and tell stories. Although she loves her father, his fits of temper make her upset. At first, she feared growing up (particularly the example of it set by her father), but later came to look forward to it and realised she can't stay a kid forever. Her goal is to become a mother and tell her children the stories of Peter Pan. Mr. Smee-Mr Smee is the main Pirate other than Captain Hook and is usually used as Hook's sidekick. He's quite round and short, has white hair and is quite odd. He is week and is often pushed around by his captain. Even though his capatin gives him a lot of trouble, Smee is very loyal to him. He is clumsy, goofy, and unlike Hook, he's very kind. John Darling andMichael Darling-Michael and John are the other siblings of Wendy. They are always energetic and adventurous and love it when Wendy tells them stories about Peter Pan. The pirates-The Pirates are Captain Hooks crew, everywhere he goes they go too. The lost boys-The lost boys are the little boys that worship Peter and wish for a mother, which is exactly the position Wendy takes up when she goes to Neverland. They are small but are smart for little boys and always get up to mischief.
Interview- Peter Pan
How do you feel about TinkerBell? TinkerBell and I are best friends, we do absolutely everything together and she never leaves my side. Although I have realised that when I met Wendy, TinkerBell became very jealous. I think it was because she was worried Wendy would make me grow up and that I would leave TinkerBell? But yeah, I love Tink. She's so fun and bubbly and she never lets me down. Why didn't you want to grow up with Wendy? The reason I don't want to grow up is because I was afraid to grow up, because once you have...there's no turning back. As much I love Wendy, I'm just a boy, and i'm just not ready to leave this all behind. Besides I couldn't leave, I'm connected to Never-land. It's apart of me, it is me, and I can't leave that part of me. And anyway, who would look after the Lost Boys? Wendy will understand one day...i'm sure. How did you and Wendy meet? Well I met her when I went to her room at night in London. She was in her long nightgown and I had flown in through the window. Why does Captain Hook dislike you? How does it feel to be responsible for The Lost Boys?
CREATIVE SHORT STORY It was still early in the morning when Tink came and woke us up. Myself and the rest of the lost boys came running at once to hear what Tink had to say. “What is it Tink? What do you want to tell us”, I said. She looked all puffed out and annoyed. Tinkerbell can get annoyed easily. Something bad must have happened then if she is this mad, she’s gone bright red now and if I’m honest with myself…even though she’s tiny, she’s scary! Tinkerbelle whispered in my ear, “There’s a Wendy bird about to fly over us. You and the boys need to shoot her down.” “Why, what has it done? Is it going to hurt us?” The boys were all prepared to shoot it down; I was helping the boys get their slingshots ready and in position. “Peter brought it here from London, Tootles. Don’t tell the other boys. They’ll go crazy. And I think it might make Peter grow up and we don’t want that, do we?” “WHAT? He can’t grow up, he is our king. We need him.” Then, Wendy flew over right where the lost boys, Tinkerbell, and I were. I can’t believe it would try and take our Peter away from us. He can’t grow up, not ever.
We were all in position. “READY...FIRE!” all the boys shouted out. I wasn’t very sure as to why I was actually agreeing to kill this creature. I had no idea what it was. What if it was peter in disguise and we had just killed him? I know that isn’t it, but it could be. She came rushing down from the sky, losing control of her flying. She fell onto a bed of moss right in front of us. We were all jumping up and down with joy. Tink was very happy indeed. I couldn’t wait to tell Peter Pan what we had done. He would be so proud of us. I would tell him that it was going to make him grow up and that we had saved him.
We all stopped after a bit. We then realised it wasn’t at all a danger. It was a lady...not a bird. We had just shot down a lady. I realised that Peter was bringing her here to be a mother to us and look after us. Now we had killed her. This could have just been another one of Tinkerbell’s schemes. “Oh no, Tinkerbell. This is just a girl. This is disrespectful. What have we done?” I couldn’t help but just stand there crying for what I had done is unforgivable. We had to help her. We tried everything to wake her up, but it wouldn’t work so we brought in a doctor. The good news was that she would wake up, but not until later.
Peter then came by, shocked and angry. As he should be. I didn’t know what to say to him. I was actually speechless myself. So I just stood there and shook my head and looked at the ground. I explained to him that Wendy was okay and that she would wake up in a few hours. He insisted that we build a house around her. Everyone would have their own room; there would be a living room with the trunks of trees, which would be used as stools. The floor would be covered in moss too. It was quite cosy really and we had made this all for Wendy. Those few hours Peter, the Lost Boys, Michael and John and myself sat around watching her in her sleep. Tink, of course, left, as Peter wanted nothing to do with her after he found out what she had done. We were all very lucky she did not get hit too hard. She may have died. She was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She had a long nightgown on that went to her toes. Her hair was light brown and was silky and smooth. She looked like an angel.
I often wondered when I’d see a girl again, I hadn’t seen a girl since the last time I saw my mother, which was a very long time ago from what I can remember. I do remember how she had big blue eyes; they had a bit of green in the middle of them. I remember this because the first time I opened my eyes; I was in her arms and looked straight into them.
When Wendy woke, the first thing I did was look at her eyes. To see if I could feel the same way I did when I saw my mother’s eyes for the first time. Wendy’s eyes were green, with a bit of blue in the middle, but they were the second most beautiful eyes I had ever seen. "Where am I?” She looked properly surprised, as she should. The boys were all excited to see that she had woken from her sleep. Of course Slightly got to speak the first words to her. “For you we’ve built a house.” “Will you be our mother?” the twins spoke. “Ooh yes, it would be so good to have you as our mother,” I added. “So you can feed us and look after us.” “And tell us stories,” the twins added. Wendy looked unsure of what to do in this situation. She said she was just a little girl and that she had no real experience but she knew that this is what she ought to do. She believed she was made to be a mother and she was glad for us to be her children. The rest of that night we all sat in a circle around Wendy. She would tell us stories about Cinderella and then a story about the lost boys. Us. She was so terrific at telling stories; she always made them very exciting.
I fell asleep that night wondering why Tinkerbell actually told us that it was a bird and not a lady. Was it because she was worried Wendy would make Peter grow up? Maybe she didn’t know it was Wendy, but I bet she did. Tinkerbell gets very jealous, especially since Peter brought another girl with him. So, I wondered how to stop her feeling that way. Jealousy is one of those awful feelings that can cause great harm to not only yourself, but to the others around you.
